President-elect Donald Trump has picked David Fink to lead the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). David Fink comes from a family of railroaders and has worked with trains and transportation for over 45 years. He worked for famous companies like the Pennsylvania Railroad and Penn Central before becoming president of Guilford Transportation. Guilford Transportation was later renamed Pan Am Railways.
David Fink didn’t just start at the top, though. In the 1980s, he worked at General Motors, which isn’t about trains but cars. Later, in 1998, he joined Pan Am Railways as the executive vice president. Then, in 2006, he became the president of Pan Am Railways. He ran the company for a long time, helping it grow and improve. Under his leadership, Pan Am Railways became an award-winning company and one of the key players in the railroad industry. David Fink also co-founded a company called Aroostook & Bangor Resources, which focuses on lumber products.
President-elect Trump posted about Fink on Truth Social, his social media platform. Trump said that Fink will bring all his knowledge and skills to the FRA and lead it into a new era of safety and innovation. That means Fink will be responsible for making sure trains are even safer, faster, and more advanced. With technology improving every day, Fink might introduce new systems that make trains more efficient and eco-friendly.
Chuck Baker, president of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association also supports Fink. Baker said Fink knows everything about how the freight rail network works. Baker added that Fink is not only smart and experienced but also a problem-solver. He’s known for finding creative solutions to tough challenges, which is exactly what the FRA needs.
One thing to remember is that even though Trump has chosen Fink for this role, it’s not a done deal yet. The Senate has to approve the nomination first. Once the Senate gives the green light, Fink can officially start his new job.
All eyes are now on the Senate to see if they confirm Fink’s nomination. If they do, it could mark the beginning of a new chapter for America’s railroads. For train lovers, business leaders, and anyone who cares about safe, reliable transportation, this is definitely something to watch.
