AAT and Alpha Augmented Services are the winners of the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) Air Cargo Sustainability Awards.
The sixth edition of the awards, run in partnership with CHAMP Cargosystems, featured a start-up and small business category and a corporate and established businesses category.
AAT won the corporate category for its deployment of autonomous electric tractors in air cargo terminal operations, while Alpha Augmented Services won the start-up and small business category for its reduction of cost, waste and CO2 emissions, plus a cash prize of $10,000.
The start-up and small business category recognises and encourages young growing businesses as well as small businesses building their presence in the air cargo industry and contributing to its sustainability transformation.
The jury selected three organisations as finalists in this category and each presented their initiative during the recent TIACA Air Cargo Forum in Miami, where the live audience selected the ultimate winner.
In addition to Alpha Augmented Services scooping first prize in this category, CargoClub and ReverseMi were awarded runner up prizes and will receive $2,500 each.
The jury for the awards comprised of Chris McDermott, CHAMP Cargosystems; Liana Coyne, Coyne Airways; Andrea Tang, FIATA; Patricia Varela, IATA; and Ariaen Zimmerman, NeAira Executive Performance.
The jury evaluated the submissions on a number of criteria, including impact on society and industry, ease of implementation, innovation and the wow factor.
“Every year our industry submits so many innovative applications for the Air Cargo Sustainability Awards,” said Glyn Hughes, director general of TIACA.
“The industry truly has taken this challenge to heart and is seeking unique ways to make air cargo more sustainable. It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) for being selected as the overall Corporate Winner and Alpha Augmented Services as the Start-up/Small Business winner.”
The official awards ceremony was held during the recent Air Cargo Forum in Miami.
TIACA has also launched the 5th annual Air Cargo Sustainability Survey. The results and recommendations of the air cargo sustainability survey are published annually in TIACA’s Insights Report.
