Uzbekistan-based startup cargo airline My Freighter is interested in investing in next-generation freighters, particularly the Boeing 777-8F. This ambitious plan was outlined by Mamur Mamadaliev, First Deputy CEO and CCO of My Freighter, in a recent interview with the STAT Media Group at the Air Cargo China 2024 event in Shanghai.
Mamadaliev mentioned that the company plans to invest in and operate a specific type of aircraft. He noted that many companies are transitioning from the Boeing 747F to the 777-8F, and investing in newer freighters will be more efficient for the airline.
Interestingly, in another interview with the STAT Media Group at the Air Cargo China 2024 event in Shanghai, John Perdoch, Director of Product Marketing – Freighters at Boeing, noted that cargo airlines are seeking replacements for their Boeing 747-400 freighters, and the B777-8F has been designed to serve as the successor to the Boeing 747-400 freighters.
However, Mamadaliev pointed out that there are specific restrictions and operational considerations for handling these types of aircraft (B777-8F) at Uzbekistan airport and internal discussions with the airport are needed to ensure the airline can operate and maintain this aircraft properly. For now, the company is focusing on its 767 freighters.
My Freighter has recently signed a lease agreement with Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) for two additional Boeing 767-300ER (BCF), increasing its freighter fleet to five aircraft.
According to the fleet report by ch-aviation, the Uzbekistan-based carrier freighter fleet comprises three aircraft – two B767-300ER(BCF)s and one B767-300ER(BDSF). The company also has three A320-200s and one A321-200NX operated by scheduled passenger subsidiary Centrum Air (Tashkent International). Bringing the total number of seven aircraft. In addition, it operates one ACJ319-100N, UK888 (MSN 9012), for the government.
Founded in 2020 and based in Tashkent, the cargo airline is undergoing significant developments. The airline, which has provided charter air cargo services in Uzbekistan and Central Asia since 2020, is expanding its fleet as part of a strategy to establish a new “Modern Silk Road” connecting China to Europe through Central Asia.
Mamadaliev stated that the airline’s main business is currently focused on China, Europe, and the Middle East. In China, the airline operates flights from cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Shenzhen, and Ürümqi, as well as from Hong Kong and Macau.
The airline also aims to enter markets in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. It is working towards launching flights from Hong Kong to Australia to explore the Australian market. Additionally, the airline is in the process of finalising several interline agreements and plans to commence operations in the USA, given the high cargo demand in North and South America, he mentioned.
My Freighter recently shared on LinkedIn its membership in the IATA Clearing House, the global standard for airline payments. This step is set to boost financial efficiency, ensure transaction accuracy, and foster stronger partnerships with industry peers.
