MAB Kargo has issued a public request for proposals (RFP) to seek bids from companies interested in providing narrow-body freighter operations for MAB Kargo. This will be for fourteen months with an option to extend further for a year.
MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) is the air cargo arm and subsidiary of the Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), a global aviation organisation comprising three focused business portfolios from Airlines, Loyalty and Travel Solutions (LTS) and Aviation Services.
According to the RFP, the proposed sectors will primarily be operated with Boeing 737-800 freighters with 19 flights per week with an option to add 13 more flights per week. However, frequencies and routing are subject to final approval. The proposed new routes according to RFP will connect Kuala Lumpur to cities like Yangon, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Perth, and Jakarta as well as to other destinations in Malaysia.
Earlier, MJets Air Sdn Bhd was appointed as narrow-body freighter operator for MAB Kargo. This contract lasts from May 1 to October 31, 2024.
This move will extend the airline’s previous contract amid growing air cargo demand.
MAB Kargo currently operates freighter services to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Chennai, Mumbai, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Manila, Hanoi, Sydney, and Amsterdam, utilising three Airbus A330-200F aircraft. In addition, it offers belly space capacity to more than 100 destinations across six continents.
MAB Kargo has also recently chosen Unisys and its logistics optimisation solution. This partnership aims to improve operational efficiency, capacity utilisation, and service delivery for MAB Kargo. Additionally, it is expected to increase sales, lower costs, and reduce errors, damages, and carbon footprint.
