IAG Cargo’s livestream webinar, Cargo Live, delivers the latest updates, trends and insights from the ever-evolving logistics industry. To mark our 10th episode, we invited four business leaders to share their latest industry insights and partake in an audience Q+A. Discover the key highlights from the interactive episode including spotlights on IAG Cargo’s London Heathrow and Madrid operations, and the changing landscape of logistics in India.
Camilo Garcia Cervera, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at IAG Cargo
Celebrating one year since returning to IAG Cargo, Camilo began by underscoring the importance of India as a key market for IAG Cargo, now operating over 55 flights per week between India and the UK. This reflects one of many services on IAG Cargo’s expansive global network, which most recently welcomed the resumption of services to Abu Dhabi after a four-year hiatus and additional rotations to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Chicago, and San Diego. IAG Cargo’s commitment to sustainability was highlighted in the recent transition of its 160-strong ground fleet at London Heathrow from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), in addition to the business’ electrified fleet at its hub in Dublin.
David Rose, Director of London Operations at IAG Cargo
David gave an extensive update on IAG Cargo’s evolving operations at London Heathrow and gave an overview of the exciting change being driven across all areas of our largest hub. As well as talking about the roles of his team of over 1,300 colleagues, David introduced the new London Operations management team which blends experience from a wide range of industries to drive positive change. He also stressed the importance of tech in the continuing success of the hub’s operations. David talked about changes made already which have driven improvements in efficiency and customer performance, with door service times down by 7%, and a 16% reduction in truck queue times year on year compared to Q1 2023.
Kinjal Pande, CEO of Cluster India and Indian Subcontinent at DB Schenker
Kinjal offered valuable insights into the changing logistics landscape in India, noting India’s economy and the impact of the ‘Make in India’ initiative launched by the Government in 2014. Cost efficiencies and lack of connectivity are amongst the challenges and opportunities in the logistics sector. Digitalisation is having a profound impact on the region as well as the focus on up-skilling the logistics workforce. Kinjal also delved into the National Logistics Policy (NLP), aimed at remedying supply chain fragmentation, bolstering efficiencies, and fostering better connectivity. Additionally, Kinjal discussed DB Schenker’s continued growth and its logistics investment in India to support the infrastructure plans.
Rob Stack, Head of Business Change Madrid Hub at IAG Cargo
Rob introduced the newly improved perishables facility at IAG Cargo’s Madrid hub. The expansion has increased the total capacity of the facility by 45% and offers new cutting-edge cooling chambers, supporting customers moving perishable goods, particularly from Latin America. The enhanced facility adheres to rigorous standards and handles perishables including fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish via our Constant Fresh product. Rob also highlighted the double-digit growth seen in the last two years, with 2023 seeing a 10% increase in processed volumes of cargo through Madrid airport.
