In the first half of 2024, IAG Cargo continued its steadfast commitment to driving global trade, supporting vital industries, and powering economic growth. With a network operating 12,000 flights per week to over 250 destinations, we have handled everything from auto parts to pharmaceuticals, electric guitars to smartphones, and art exhibits to mangoes… and we still have the remainder of the year to go!
From plane to patient
Constant Climate is our state-of-the-art cold chain product that ensures temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical, bioscience, and healthcare products arrive in pure potent and stable condition. We are proud to have over 100 cold chain approved stations globally, which were crucial throughout April and May when we successfully facilitated vaccine shipments for meningitis, transporting over 140 tonnes from Belgium to Argentina. Additionally, Argentina and various other Latin American destinations received critical diabetic medications. These operations ensured a steady supply of essential medicines, strengthening healthcare systems and benefiting patients. This was especially evident in January when we delivered anti-leprosy medicine to Ecuador, aiding in the fight against a disease that annually affects approximately 250,000 people worldwide.
Keeping the wheels turning
In the world of automobiles, IAG Cargo has been instrumental in keeping the industry rolling smoothly. In May, the electric vehicle industry relied on us to transport 100 tonnes of crucial components from India to Australia and the US. This movement not only facilitated the production of cutting-edge electric vehicles during a time when the demand for EVs continues to soar, but also strengthened international supply chains. Similarly, an automotive plant in Johannesburg received a significant boost in June with the arrival of 81 tonnes of auto parts from the UK, and we uplifted 35 tonnes of spare parts from Brazil to Madrid for a European car factory. IAG Cargo’s Critical service for urgent and emergency shipments ensures vehicles can continue rolling off production lines and hitting the open road.
Sky high-tech
IAG Cargo’s services have been instrumental in facilitating the global digital transformation. Our extensive network has enabled us to move high-tech equipment efficiently around the world, such as transporting 40 tonnes of data mining equipment from Singapore to the US and delivering 16 tonnes of game consoles from Japan to the UK, ensuring gamers everywhere have access to the latest technology. During the first two weeks of the year, we moved 28 tonnes of smartphones to the US from India, 32 tonnes of notebooks and routers from Dubai to London, and 14 tonnes of laptops from the US to Dubai. In April, we ensured the timely delivery of 22 tonnes of electrical breakers and tools from India to mid-west US. These components are integral to a range of high-tech manufacturing processes, including the production of electronics and smart devices. By facilitating the movement of critical parts and products, we maintain the smooth operation of production lines and help meet the growing global demand for gadgets.
Fresh connections
In addition to our specialised cold chain solution for pharmaceuticals, we also provide Constant Fresh, our bespoke service for the global transportation of perishable goods. Leveraging our extensive network in Latin America, a key region for perishable exports, we kicked of the year by transporting 133 tonnes of asparagus from Lima to Madrid, 114 tonnes of fresh hake, and 29 tonnes of premium meat from Argentina to Portugal and Spain. February saw a significant increase in demand for flowers leading up to Valentine’s Day, with daily shipments of fresh blooms from Latin America reaching our major hubs in Madrid, Barcelona, and London. Our operations in Spain were recently enhanced by a €1.5 million investment into the expansion of our temperature-controlled facility in Madrid. Here, we offer state-of-the-art cooling chambers monitored 24/7 to ensure temperature sensitive goods are held in the correct condition before moving onto the next leg of their journey. This means our growers and producers can be confident that their products will reach supermarket shelves and restaurant kitchens in pristine condition.
Cargo for creatives
Whilst our services are crucial in keeping global industry moving, we also cater to the more unique and shipments that our customers entrust us to handle. Music was in the air as we facilitated the seamless transportation of 12 tonnes of valuable concert equipment from London to the US, 5 tonnes of electric guitars from Japan to the US, and 10 tonnes of theatre equipment from Japan to London. By supporting these intricate logistical needs, we play a pivotal role in powering the global music and entertainment industry. Meanwhile, art lovers might be interested to know that we supported the transportation of art exhibitions from Havana to Mexico and London to Ghana. These movements underscore our role in promoting cultural exchange and ensuring the arts continue to blossom.
