Doing so will typically allow you to negotiate down the accessorial charge and include it in the base freight rate.

Fuel costs are a big portion of the total cost to run freight. As such, in the majority of cases, freight charges will most always be a base fee, plus a fuel surcharge. In other words, don’t forget to include fuel in your freight calculations.Â

Demurrage: Demurrage is a charge assessed for cargo that is left at the terminal beyond the allotted free time.
