During the latest Freeport of Riga Board meeting on 1 March, Sandis Šteins was elected as the chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board, with Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča chosen as the vice-chairman of the Board.
Šteins, who holds a Master’s degree in economics, brings extensive experience in managing large enterprises and state capital companies, having served in various managerial roles in organizations such as SIA “Kool Latvia”, SIA “Rimi Latvija”, and others.
His tenure with the Freeport of Riga began in 2024, when he was initially appointed as a representative by the Minister of Economics.
Priedīte-Kancēviča, on the other hand, holds a law degree from the University of Latvia and boasts over 28 years of experience in public administration. Notably, she has held positions like director of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Transport since 2006.
Also, Priedīte-Kancēviča has been a member of the Freeport of Riga Board since 2023, representing the minister of Transport.
The Freeport of Riga Board serves as the principal decision-making body for the port, comprising four members nominated by different ministries. Currently, the Board members are Sandis Šteins (Ministry of Economy), Elita Turka (Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development), Baiba Bāne (Ministry of Finance), and Liene Priedīte-Kancēviča (Ministry of Justice).
