The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) comes together for it’s annual EXPO this September, but this edition is likely to feel a bit different for its longtime leader. IANA President Joni Casey joins us on the latest InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast to discuss EXPO, including highlights of the event, expected attendance and the organization’s recent announcement regarding where future EXPOs will take place following this year’s at the Long Beach Convention Center in California.
She discusses the excitement of the exhibit floor, the networking opportunities that getting together face-to-face brings, and IANA’s student case competition that occurs during EXPO. Shifting gears, we also discuss her more than 27-year tenure as IANA president, including some favorite accomplishments (future intermodalists come into play for that one).
For intermodal as a whole, Joni tells us how much it’s grown as a freight mode over her career, the opportunities it presents regarding cost, sustainability and capacity today, and the challenges it faces – especially related to regulations going after independent contractors that could upend the owner-operator model.
EXPO runs from September 9-11, 2024 at the Long Beach Convention Center and is open to members and non-members alike – though members do receive a discount. Also discounted are advance registrants – though that discount runs out August 2. For more information and to register, visit www.intermodal.org.
