Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) has re-delivered the first Airbus A330 passenger to freighter (P2F) aircraft modified at the facility of its China-based conversion partner, ST Engineering Aerospace Guangzhou Aviation Services Company.
The German conversion company, a joint venture of ST Engineering and Airbus, confirmed the milestone in a LinkedIn post on Friday December 20, though it did not state which company would operate the A330P2F.
“We just re-delivered our first A330P2F modified at our conversion partner in Guangzhou, China,” said EFW. “This first A330 was inducted at our partner this year in May and went through all conversion phases smoothly well supported by our engineering and further teams in Dresden, Germany as well as by several other parties. The aircraft is soon to be transferred and to be operated on its new mission: carrying lots of express cargo!
“Prior to the A330P2F, the team at our partner performed already 17 Airbus Passenger-to-Freighter conversions of the standard body aircraft A321P2F.
“We would like to take the opportunity to thank all team who contributed to the successful completion of the first A330 P2F conversion at our partner in Guangzhou.”
EFW’s P2F programmes include the widebody platforms – the A330-200P2F and the A330-300P2F – which were first redelivered in 2017 and 2018 respectively; and the narrowbody platforms – the A321P2F and the A320P2F – which were first redelivered in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
The A330-200P2F is capable of payloads up to 60 tons and the A330-300P2F offers up to 62 tons.
EFW has announced a number of developments in Asia recently. Last month, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with carrier HNA Aviation Group to support HNA’s Grand China Aircraft Maintenance Services (GCAM) arm with A330P2F conversions.
MRO Japan (MJP) and EFW also formally signed a partnership in November that involves MJP providing third-party conversion services for EFW’s A320P2F and A321P2F programmes.
In the same month, EFW also reached a major freighter conversion milestone with the redelivery of its 100th converted aircraft, from China.
In Asia, ST Engineering Aerospace carries out freighter conversions in Singapore, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In Europe, the company has a conversion facility in Dresden, Germany, while in the US there are conversion facilities in Mobile, Alabama and San Antonio, Texas.
