Challenge Group has added a Boeing 747-400 production freighter to its fleet to predominantly serve the e-commerce sector from China.
The cargo aircraft is registered under Challenge Group’s Belgian AOC and its delivery means the Group’s fleet has trebled in less than three years to now include six 747-400Fs and four Boeing 767-300Fs.
As well as serving e-commerce demand out of China, the 747-400F is anticipated to support demand for other verticals, including perishables out of Africa, plus transatlantic trade.
Further, in addition to increasing Challenge Group’s capacity, the new aircraft is expected to help improve efficiency, flexibility and flight frequencies.
“The addition of the Boeing 747-400F is a pivotal step in Challenge Group’s fleet strategy,” said Or Zak, chief commercial officer at Challenge Group. “It reinforces our ability to respond to the evolving demands of the air freight capacity while expanding our capability to serve new markets. This aircraft exemplifies our commitment to operational flexibility and providing additional solutions for our customers.”
The addition of the 747-400F aligns with Challenge Group’s long-term strategy to grow its fleet and increase its market reach.
In October, Challenge Group said it had completed its 767 conversion programme with the deployment of two newly converted 767-300Fs to add to the two already in operation.
The airline group said that the addition of the 767-300Fs had freed up capacity on its 747-400Fs for use on long-haul routes and for enhanced connectivity between Europe, the Far East and the US.
