Drayage can be a bit like a puzzle before it’s put together – fragmented. Add issues like limited visibility, inconsistent documentation and high administrative overhead and you can see why frustration occurs. The good news is, there’s a solution – one that our guests on Episode 48Â of InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast join us to discuss. That solution is an app called ModalView, a collaboration between DrayNow and Norfolk Southern Railroad.
To explain what it is and how the partnership – which officially began last year – came about, we welcome Senior Director of Product Meghan Nesta, President and General Manager Mike Albert and former president of Triple Crown Services (and current consultant) Sam Niness. The team go over some of the pain points in first and final mile intermodal that have made efficiency tough to achieve – like outdated manual processes and struggles with communication (and tracking) between drivers and IMCs particularly.
They explain how ModalView addresses all those pain points on both ends, with a simple mobile app for drivers and a web-based application for the IMC. The software allows for real-time data relating to truck location, documentation and more across providers, plus simplified booking. In other words, it’s not limited to NS and its direct partners. For dray drivers, the app behaves much like Uber or DoorDash, while the IMC gets real-time data it can use to streamline pickups and deliveries – and to offer visibility to shippers.
