Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) and trucking firm Bos Logistics are utilising an electric truck for the delivery of cargo.
The duel-branded Volvo FH Electric truck will deliver consolidated freight from AFKLMP’s Schiphol facility to various airfreight agents.
The companies had already switched to a biofuel for deliveries, which the partners reckon reduce net emissions by 90%.
“With the introduction of this electric truck, we are strengthening our commitment to a more sustainable future,” said Frank Bos Junior, general manager of Bos Logistics. “This vehicle contributes to reducing our CO2 emissions and is an important step in promoting sustainable logistics.”
Koen Bolster, vice president KLM Cargo operations, added: “The use of a fully electric truck underlines our determination to make the logistics chain more sustainable where possible.
“Together with Bos Logistics, we are taking an important step towards cleaner logistics today, further strengthening our joint position as leaders in the sector.”
The two partners said they would make further investments in reducing their impact on the environment in the future.
As well as investing in improving its environmental performance on the ground, the airline group has also been investing in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Earlier this year, the carrier revealed that five Asia-based customers have signed up to use SAF through the carrier group.
The companies are: JHJ International Transportation, Best Services International Freight, Easy Speed International Logistics, Xiamen Supertrans Logistics and Winstar International Logistics Company.
The Air France KLM Group announced in 2022 it would purchase 1.6m tons of SAF each year, with Neste supplying 1m tons between 2023 and 2030 and DG Fuels supplying 600,000 tons between 2027 and 2036.
AFKLMP launched its SAF programme in 2020 and in 2022 added an option for those using its booking portal to be able to adjust the level of SAF used for each shipment.
