Intermodal solutions come in many shapes, sizes and locations. On Episode 47 of InTek Freight & Logistics: The Podcast, we discuss a few of them – including the lesser known short-haul variety, with Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) VP of Intermodal Luis Hernandez. Luis tells us about Sunshine State-specific intermodal between Jacksonville and Miami, as well as even shorter haul routes that bypass South Florida traffic.
He also talks about hurricane preparedness, the interaction between freight rail and the new passenger Brightline service, and how far FEC intermodal can take loads beyond Florida. As FEC is owned by Grupo Mexico – a company Luis has been a part of for some time – Luis also provides a check-in on cross-border freight between the U.S. and Mexico. He tells us how the market looks now, how rail is continually adding solutions, and why intermodal should only grow from here.
Speaking of intermodal growth in Mexico, Luis also talks about AMTI (InTek is a member), and how the Mexican intermodal association is pushing for greater awareness and adoption.
