FedEx Corporation has joined forces with Nimble Robotics to boost FedEx Fulfillment’s growth potential using Nimble’s independent 3PL approach. FedEx is also putting money into the company, but the amount remains under wraps.

Scott Temple, president of FedEx Supply Chain, stated in the release that the partnership and financial investment with Nimble allow FedEx to strengthen its presence in the e-commerce sector. That further scaled FedEx’s Fulfillment service throughout North America. Nimble’s advanced AI robotics and autonomous systems will streamline operations and create new opportunities for FedEx customers.
The FedEx Supply Chain runs more than 130 warehouses and fulfillment hubs across North America and deals with 475 million returns each year. , the company has thought about selling off its freight business to zero in on its parcel and logistics work.
In March 2023, Nimble got $65 million in Series B funding to build up its network of robot-run fulfillment centers. These centers take care of picking, packing, and shipping e-commerce orders while cutting down on needed warehouse space by 75%.
Nimble’s website states that the company runs three fulfillment center “nodes” in the United States. These are located in the San Francisco Bay Area Dallas, and Trenton, New Jersey. Nimble has plans to add three more nodes by 2025. The new locations will be in Tijuana, Mexico, Chicago, and Atlanta.
Simon Kalouche, founder and CEO of Nimble, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership in the release, stating, “We’re thrilled to be engaging in this multifaceted alliance with a logistics industry leader like FedEx to pioneer and scale autonomous fulfillment. This collaboration will allow FedEx to take advantage of Nimble’s fast and cost-effective fulfillment centers, powered by our next-generation intelligent general-purpose warehouse robots and AI technology.”
