Dave Clark, former CEO of Flexport and CEO of global consumer business at Amazon, announced the launch of a logistics start up Auger, an “intuitive, automated, and transformative supply chain solution.”
Writing on LinkedIn, Clark says: “Reinventing supply chain technology and processes is my passion and life’s work, and it’s time to get back to building. backed by $100 million from Oak HC/FT and led by a team of world class experts, the future of supply chain management is here. Welcome to Auger.”
Auger is building a future where global supply chains operate with the simplicity of today’s most intuitive consumer technologies, Clark added. “Revolutionising global supply chains with an AI-powered OS unifying data for seamless, real-time insights, and powerful automation.”
Despite heavy investments, companies still rely on fragmented “franken-software” — disjointed systems patched together from incompatible technologies that lead to inefficient workarounds, Clark added… “leading to a shocking amount of the world’s supply chain running on Excel.
“Auger’s core strength lies in its deep AI-powered automation, paired with a consumer-grade user experience. This combination allows operators to handle complex tasks through simple, familiar tools. Actionable data appears instantly, enabling swift decisions—no complex queries or training required.”
Matt Streisfeld, General Partner, Oak, says: “The timing is perfect for this innovative solution, which will redefine the future of global supply chains with a true operating system for planning, forecasting and financing. Auger is poised to deliver the supply chain product the market has been waiting for.”
Auger will be based in Bellevue, WA, and will include “relentless problem-solvers with a proven track record of delivering transformative supply chain solutions at scale,” Clark added.
Criticism and praise are already flowing in….
How is it that a first time entrepreneur just gets $ 100 million for just an idea around broken supply chains? Is it 2015 all over again?
Dave, I am so excited to see you doing this, if anyone on this planet can make this work it is you Sir!
The Flexport storyClark had resigned from Flexport in 2023, allowing for the return of its founder Ryan Petersen. Petersen had claimed repeatedly that Clark overspent and overhired during his time at the freight forwarding startup.
Petersen asked six executives hired by Clark, including Teresa Carlson, who joined Flexport as president and chief commercial officer in January 2023 after previous senior executive roles at Microsoft and Amazon.
Petersen, in the latest round of firings, announced fresh job cuts and plans to sublease excess warehouse space to overhaul the money-losing business, The Information reported.
