Hang on a minute fellas. Australian here. The R32, R33 and R34 GTR are 2.6L featuring c variants of the RB26. That’s a huge faux pas on your part. You should both know better. I do appreciate you didn’t have them in the USA but still, you should know. The GTR dominated our major racing event at Bathurst and really upset some people.
When i went to 3rd grade, i made friends with another kid in class, whos mom worked at a Mazda dealer. Him learning how much i loved cars, he got his mom to bring home a brochure of the new 93 RX-7 for me. It was a full on magazine, but the paper was thicker. Now THAT was a brochure, it showed everything, and looking at it with a modern perspective, wasnt full of BS. It just showed the unibody without panels, the suspension, talked about the engine. It wasnt trying to sell you the car, it was more of a Wikipedia article about the car. It was greyish with chrome RX-7 logos in the center. Im almost 40 now, i still have it in my giant collection of car magazines, and i can still remember my friend whenever i run across it. Funniest thing, he had a unique laugh, which i started doing, then my mom caught on too. I dont do it anymore, but my mom still laughs like my friend in 3rd grade.
What a garage. Lived in Japan in the age of the R32. Was amazing. Wish I could’ve afforded one. Luckily my friend had one. Fastest thing I’d ever been in. Would love to find an import now. The perfect sports car.
Next to my elementary a guy had one that had been thru a fire from the engine bay. I dreamed of that car half sitting under a tarp. After 20 years he moved when i was still to broke to try to buy it.
I had two 280z and a rx7 they all are very good starter sports car
From recall the litre equivalency for Mazda's Rotary was 1.3 litres per rotor.
So the dual rotor in your garage would be 2.6 litres.
Huge power from such a small capacity engine!
I loved my very used '87 RX7 that I bought in 1997. It wasn't particularly fast, but it was super fun. I test drove an RX8 when they came out. My wife, who drove a '95 Cobra Mustang at the time, freaked out when the tach hit 7,000 rpm. I pointed out the redline was 8,700, and these engines thrive above 6,000.
The twin turbo rx7 had 255hp.
Needed the NSX on that stage….
Zed sounds masculine, Zee is feminine…
All 3 cars are great cars and gorgeous cars, I’m surprised they didn’t do a mk4 Supra instead of the 240z. There was a lot of cool cars from the 90’s in the jdm market, but the 240z would have been my pick out of the 3. I’ve got a 87 conquest tsi and I truly love that car, it’s one of my favorites of all time.
Funny how much actual information is wrong 🤔 stock skyline is a 2.6 in the highest trim. The Rx 7 I thought was rated for about 255hp very interesting
My dad had a 1600 Roadster. He fought the rust like a demon but, the rust finally won. Fun to drive though
I wonder why the value of RX-7s has increased so much. Have engineers found a way to make these engines last now and burn less fuel than a big block? If yes, then i guess i should go buy me an RX-8 because they're dirt cheap now.
The GTR is the OG. The Godzilla. The JDM to beat all JDM. The best looking of all GTRs and still a very good performer and quite efficient too. It's the car to have if you're a 90s car fan and especially a JDM fan.
The Z is special. It's not JDM. It was made for the European and American market, but it's a CLASSIC, and that makes it special. Not only that but you can easily drop an LS in there and you have a hotrod or a version that the US market would have greatly appreciated if it existed back then.
I don’t know where they are getting these prices from but the GTR from what I have seen has appreciated the most in the last five years and for a good example of an R 32 I’ve seen them go for $30-$40,000 nowhere near 80 or 120,000 same thing with the RX seven they have been about 15 to 30,000 for a good example
Oh my God, I know Jay Leno and the other guy are very knowledgeable and I’ve grown up watching them, to hear them call this a 3 L and the other guys say yes kills me. Oh my God., it’s a 2.6 the legendary RB26DETT, not the 3L 2jz-gte smh
Greed and wrongdoing is what’s bringing Nissan to its knees, it might happen to Toyota as well.
I like the rear on the z but not the front
Is jay on fake tan ?
Those are some pretty sweet cars. One car that comes to mind that appreciated the most is the Mark 4 Supra. It's gotten so ridiculously expensive that I'm afraid I wont be able to afford my dream car anymore…
I love Z cars. That's the one I want.
I grew up wanting these cars, but by the time I could afford the original sticker price, they've doubled in price and there's inflation in the currency.
Donald always has style and class, he’s the right person to steer Jay around in a meaningful and polite way. I do have to say that I disagree with the evaluations of the cars. A true GTR does get a significant premium over a FD RX 7 in the American market. Depending on options, a really significant premium! The FD RX7 is a truly beautiful car. The GTR is a legend. The Datsun is iconic.
I had a small Datsun Station Wagon that I really thought was a good simple car! I admired the 240Z. They don’t make cars like that anymore
I see JDM i click
Z for the win, over exposed? sure in the late 70s, early 80s but, the retro Z could have been something, duplicating the success of the 240/260/280. Kind of like the success of the retro Mustang in 2005/2006 but Nissan screwed up production (still to date) after a huge media launch. Over transmissions? I gave up getting one and purchased a Challenger, right after they were discontinued. Best of health to you Jay!
Jay, I think part of the RX-7 appreciation is people ruining them with LS swaps.
That 240Z could benefit from an original set of Nissan issued oem Yazaki spark plug wires which just happen to be currently available on eBay.
